I have been searching high and low for some decent primers and decided to try Coola's Daydream Mineral Primer. The price is $42 for 1 oz. of product. I've seen this at Ulta, Sephora
and Nordstrom, so lots of options for places to purchase it, depending on which rewards program you prefer!
This primer comes housed in a glass container with a pump. The pump really shoots out the product, so be ready so that it doesn't squirt everywhere.
It has a slightly unpleasant scent and I can't place what it is, but it fades almost immediately upon application. The primer is white, but applies clear once it's sheered out on the skin. (I left a pretty thick application for the swatch below, so that you could see it.)
It has two types of physical SPF: zinc oxide and titanium dioxide for an SPF of 30. Here are the ingredients:
The texture is smooth and siliconey, but it doesn't stay slippery all day. It does dry down shortly after you apply it. I didn't feel that it left any whitecast on my NW 15/20 skin, but I was careful to blend it all around my hairline.
It is described as "A weightless, multitasking primer for flawless makeup, infused with
Coola’s signature Plant Protection® and a mineral broad-spectrum SPF 30
sunscreen to protect the skin." It's designed to help minimize the appearance of dullness, uneven texture, redness, fine lines and wrinkles and pores.
I like this primer for a lot of reasons. It's cruelty free, which is great! It also feels good when you apply it. Even though I don't love the scent, it doesn't linger. It does help to blur the appearance of pores, which is always a bonus. I think it's great that it has physical SPF and since it's a primer, I think you could apply enough to get the full SPF 30 protection. Unlike foundation or BB cream, which are harder to apply enough product to really be able to use them in place of sunscreen. It also seems to help increase the wear of my foundation and it doesn't break me out!
The only trouble with the Coola primer is that it's kind of pricey at $42, but it's acting as two products (primer and SPF), so I'm willing to let that slide. Also, it's a tiny bit drying for my combination skin. I notice it mostly on the skin around my mouth. It's not so much that I can't use it - I just make sure to really moisturize that area before I put on the primer. However, I do wonder if it would be more of an issue in winter. Even though it's slightly drying, I still had to blot throughout the day to minimize oil on my chin, which is really normal for me.
On the whole, I've been loving Coola Daydream SPF 30 Mineral Primer! It's enjoyable to apply, it has a blurring effect, it's cruelty free, it's got physical sunscreen, it doesn't break me out and it plays nicely with both liquid and mineral powder foundation. A very cool product, indeed!
