Ever curious about new foundations and bb creams, I wanted to test out the Covergirl Clean Matte BB Cream. It says it's for oily skin, so I thought I'd see how that played out on my combo skin.
I got "Fair", which is the lightest shade. It looks a bit dark in the tube, but sheers out nicely on my NW 15/20 skin. Here's my skin without any makeup:
This is just the bb cream by itself:
And here's what it looks like when I have on all my makeup:
I applied this bb cream all over with my fingers and set it with powder. It went on nicely and was easy to blend. The finish was natural to semi-matte and the coverage was sheer to light. For a bb cream, it had more coverage that I expected. I did try to build it up on my chin, but that ended up a little cakey. So a lighter application yielded better results. The product doesn't have any bothersome scent and it has the thickness of a lightweight moisturizer. It felt comfortable on my skin and didn't cause any breakouts. So far, so good!
As the day wore on, I noticed that the Covergirl Clean Matte BB Cream settled into my chin crease and around my nose. It also separated a bit as my chin got oily and looked patchy. Since it is marketed for oily skin, I was disappointed that it didn't stand up to my greasy chin better. I also felt like it just sat on top of my skin. It didn't look skin-like. It looked like I was wearing makeup. However, it didn't oxidize, so the shade match stayed true all day.
Here are the swatches for the "Fair" shade.

I really went back and forth on the Covergirl Clean Matte BB cream. The shade match was great and I liked how it looked right after I put it on. However, I just couldn't handle the way it just sat on top of my skin. I found myself reaching for other foundations/tinted moisturizers, so I knew I had to return it or risk having it sit in my foundation drawer collecting dust. I'm glad I was able to give it a whirl, though!
