CoTZ LipCoTZ SPF 45 Lip Balm Review

I was excited to try CoTZ LipCoTZ SPF 45 lip balm because I am obsessed with lip products and also because it has physical sunblock in it!

Woohoo! So many lip balms have chemical spf and that can have a really awful taste.

LipCoTZ comes in a standard plastic lip balm tube.

The balm itself is brown, which was a bit of a surprise!

The description for this lip balm explains that, "CoTZ LipCoTZ SPF 45 nourishes and hydrates dry, chapped lips while providing excellent, broad-spectrum sun protection to prevent the visible signs of aging due to environmental damage. Micronized zinc and titanium physically block harmful UVA and UVB rays. Vitamins C and E neutralize free radicals and encourage collagen production while richly-emollient sunflower seed oil and circulation-boosting ginger root extract plump and soften your lips."

Here is the full ingredients list:

So even though this lip balm is brown, it is transparent, although not totally clear. If you really pack it on, it has a milky white cast. If you just put on a couple swipes, it's pretty sheer.

Here are my lips without anything on (so chapped!):

And here they are with LipCoTZ SPF 45 balm:

LipCoTZ feels quite a bit more slippy than I expected. It's not waxy at all and gives a bit of sheen to the lip. It has a light strawberry/herbal scent that is not overwhelming or offensive. It has no chemical taste and really has no taste at all when you lick your lips. I like that it has SPF 45 and that it's all physical SPF with both zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. The only drawback is that it's just not quite hydrating enough for me. When I first apply it, my lips feel moisturized, but after about 15 minutes, I feel like I need to reach for something thicker and more emollient.

I'm going to keep my LipCoTZ because of the high SPF and because it wasn't too expensive. I've been using it to protect my lips from sun damage when I take my cat around the yard for a walk. (Self indulgent kitty picture to follow...)

However, the fact that LipCotz just isn't moisturizing enough means that I will be continuing my search for a thicker, more hydrating lip balm with sunscreen. I will prevail!
