Tarte Double Duty Beauty Confidence Creamy Powder Foundation Review

I thought a powder foundation might be nice for getting ready quickly, so I picked up the Tarte Double Duty Beauty Confidence Creamy Powder foundation. Whoa! That's a mouthful! I got the shade fair light neutral.

The box is purple and it has a cool emblem on the front that represents the "D" and the "B" in "Double Duty Beauty". It took me a minute to figure that out. The inside of the box has a cute zig zag pattern.

The compact and sponge come in a purple pouch that says, "Make Today Beautiful". Don't mind if I do!

The compact itself is gold and very shiny! (Bonus reflection of my cat! ) I like the packaging a lot!

The included sponge is two-sided. One side is purple velour/velvet.

The other side is black and sponge-y.

There is also a separate brush/sponge combo that you can buy, but I didn't get it. The compact has a mirror and the powder has the same emblem as the box.

This powder foundation is cool because you can apply it wet or dry. It's supposed to be medium to full coverage. I tried applying it with a damp Beauty Blender and that did give medium coverage. I wouldn't say it was full coverage, but it did do a good job of covering the redness on my chin and cheeks. I also tried applying it with a Real Techniques duo fiber powder brush. That method yielded sheer to light coverage. Just for science, I also tried applying the foundation over loose powder (Clinique Blended Face Powder), which helped blur pores more than just applying the foundation alone.

The shade match was pretty good for my NW15/20 skin. It was a titch darker than my neck and chest, but my face is darker even without foundation. The finish is matte and the coverage is definitely buildable, depending on your application choice.

Here's how it looks on my applied dry with a brush over loose powder:

Here it is swatched heavily on my arm.

This wore well when I applied it dry with a brush, especially over loose powder. However, when I applied it damp with a damp Beauty Blender, it seemed to break down on my chin and just looked oilier overall as the day went on.

I tried touching up with the included sponge after blotting with blotting papers, which did help where the foundation had broken up from oil.

I liked this foundation from the standpoint of ease of application. Applied with a brush, it looks very natural and stays pretty matte throughout the day. It also hasn't broken me out after wearing it for a few days. However, it feels tight on my skin. I also notice a slight tickle/itch throughout the day that isn't there when I don't wear this foundation. So, for that reason, I plan to return it. I can't pinpoint what ingredient would cause this, but here is the ingredient list.

I am disappointed this didn't work for me because this foundation has a lot going for it. It's oil-free, cruelty free and is easy and quick to apply. My skin is just finicky and sensitive. So I'll just keep looking!
