Supergoop Shine On Lipscreen - Review

Having assisted with Mohs surgery on the lip to remove non-melanoma skin cancer, I have been scared straight as far as wearing lip products with sunscreen! So I was over the moon when I saw that Supergoop had a new product called Shine On Lipscreen! It has SPF 50 and it's a lip gloss! What? Awesome, right?

I love lip glosses and am always happy to see something that is not a liquid lipstick. Add some sunscreen and that makes things even better!

Supergoop's Lipscreen comes in a white, plastic tube with a cap that twists off.

The cap houses the applicator, which is a brush.

You can wear this alone or over your favorite lip product. Here's what it looks like on me. I applied it by itself without any lipstick.

After initial application, I was hopeful. It feels glossy and has some good slip. It doesn't have any discernible scent or taste. I felt like it was a win, until I felt a tingling sensation. Ahhh! There is some type of minty ingredient in this product that was really irritating. It wasn't intense like a plumping gloss, but it just felt uncomfortable and made me want to take it off. I am so bummed. I don't see anything mint-like in the ingredients, so I'm not sure what could be causing this feeling.

With that in mind, here's an overview of the pros and cons.

Pros:
  • no scent or taste
  • SPF 50
  • glossy texture - lots of slip like a lip gloss
  • cruelty free
  • shiny appearance
  • can be worn over lipstick
  • convenient packaging

Cons:
  • minty ingredient irritated my lips
  • applicator picks up color if applied over lipstick
  • chemical SPF
If you're not sensitive, then I think the Supergoop Shine On Lipscreen would be a great lip product for sun protection! Sadly, it didn't work out for me!
