Loreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation Review

Another product that gets a ton of raves is Loreal Pro-Matte Foundation.

To be fair, I've also seen some negative reviews, but that just made me want to try it even more. Would I love it or hate it? Oh, the suspense! There's only one way to find out!

After exhaustive research, I decided to get the shade 101 Classic Ivory. I thought that would match my NW 15/20 skin the best. The back of the squeeze tube promises that this foundation is demi-matte, 24 hour wear, medium coverage and air-light texture.

Loreal Infallible Pro-Matte foundation is creamy, unscented (it has a bit of a foundation scent, but it fades and is not offensive at all), and comes in a handy squeeze tube. I agree that the coverage is medium. I applied it with a Beauty Blender and that helped to sheer it out a bit. It is definitely buildable for areas where I needed more coverage. I still needed a concealer on my skin cancer scar, though. The finish is pretty matte, though I guess you could call it "demi-matte". It feels pretty light on the skin at first, though I did notice that it felt somewhat drying as the day went on. As for the 24 hour wear claim, well, I didn't totally put that to the test. However, I did notice that this foundation looked beautiful when first applied, but settled around my nose and my chin crease after about an hour. The color match is not bad, but I feel like the undertone is a bit too pink for me.

Here's how it compares to two other foundations that I love - Urban Decay Naked Weightless Foundation in 2.0 and Revlon Colorstay in Buff. This photo was taken outside in the sun. The swatches are not blended in.

You can see that the Loreal foundation leans a bit more pink, where Colorstay is pretty neutral and the Naked foundation has a bit of a yellow undertone.

Here's what my skin looks like without makeup:

And here I am with the Loreal foundation:

Here are swatches in different light.

Loreal Infallible Pro-Matte foundation has some good things going for it, so I can see why a lot of people love it!

Pros:
  • Matte finish
  • Medium coverage
  • Sanitary squeeze tube
  • Tube allows you to see how much product is left
  • No offensive scent
  • Did not make me break out
  • Affordable
  • Easy to find at many drugstores and online

Unfortunately, it has some strikes against it.

Cons:
  • Settled/creased around my nose and on my chin
  • Shade match not great - undertones too pink
  • Somewhat drying as the day wore on (my skin is combo - this probably wouldn't be a problem for an oily skin type)

If the Loreal Pro-Matte didn't crease or feel drying, then I might try to find a better shade match. But because of those issues, I'm just going to return it. I'm glad I got to try it, though! Now I don't have to wonder next time I see a glowing review!
